Hug Your Hero Gifts Helps Send A Child To Camp
When Hug Your Hero Gifts, Inc. participated in the Southern Women’s Show in Nashville, we didn’t realize the lives we would touch with our “Have you hugged a Fire Fighter today?” T-shirts and note cards. We feel very blessed to have met some wonderful people at our first event and 3 organizations stand out in the forefront of our memories. And I wanted to share a little bit of information about each of them with everyone I could possibly reach!
The Tennessee Firefighters Burn Foundation was established in 2002 and is designed “To provide aid and recovery of burned children”. The primary objective of the Foundation is to “assist burn survivors in their recovery and to keep in close contact with burn units and medical facilities that provide care for burn victims”. They also provide burn awareness education throughout the community. The Foundation operates and provides funding for Camp Phoenix, a summer camp for burn survivors from age 6-17. “For one week the children go to camp without the fear of rejection regardless of their physical features or limitations. Activities include swimming, crafts, boating, skits, horseback riding and other summer camp type fun!” These kids are remarkable and the volunteers are a blessing from above. Visit their website at www.tnfbfcampphoenix.com and see for yourself what a wonderful place camp can be.
Box 55 Association Nashville Fire Buffs is celebrating 55 years of service to Nashville’s Bravest! “Box 55 is a 501 (c) (3) nonprofit organization of volunteers who offer rehabilitation services to the Nashville Fire Department and other municipalities. And is supported solely through donations and contributions. Currently, Box 55 responds to all working fires and by special request to other emergency situations such as search and rescue, SWAT, Haz-Mat, major MVA’s and other extended operations. Refreshments are served out of a customized 18 foot response truck. This truck is equipped with a 40 gallon water tank for hot or cold water, an 18 cu. ft. refrigerator/freezer, a propane grill with a two burner stove, a microwave, all aluminum cabinetry and 2 coffee makers. This vehicle also, carries misting fans, lighting, a generator, folding chairs, a kerosene heater and a cooler of cold drinks and snacks. Box 55 members respond 24 hours, 7 days a week when needed.” These wonderful volunteers were very passionate about their organization and its mission. Their enthusiasm for what they do and who they assist is unbelievable. Visit their website at www.box55.org and see the wonderful work they do for our brave men and women.
And we couldn’t mention the above 2 organizations without mentioning the Fire Fighters of Nashville Local 140. Their spirit of giving was enormous as they gave up 4 nights to be at the show (with all of those women) and raise money for Box 55 and Camp Phoenix. What an outstanding group of brave men. It’s amazing to think of what a fire fighter goes through each and every day they put on their uniform to protect us and our communities. They epitomize what it means to be a “Hero”. Thanks for all you do every day.
Hug Your Hero Gifts, Inc is proud to say that we were able to give $5.00 from the sale of each Fire Fighter shirt sold at the show to Camp Phoenix and Box 55. These shirts where the “hottest” item we sold. We proudly donated $45 to assist these organizations. Please take the time to tell a volunteer, a burn survivor and a fire fighter that you appreciate their courage & commitment!
